Yoga Instruction: Level I
The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Yoga Instruction: Level I is designed to prepare students to become qualified yoga instructors. Includes a foundation in the theory, traditions and practice of yoga, knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics as applied to yoga instruction, instructional methodology in the art of teaching beginning yoga poses (asanas) as part of a yoga practice, and mentored teaching experience.
Details
Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
Students must enroll in a yoga (YOG) physical practice course each semester.
- Practice industry accepted professional and ethical behavior.
- Demonstrate techniques and modifications to achieve an effective and safe personal yoga practice.
- Utilize effective written and oral communication skills in accordance with the professional conventions within the field of yoga.
- Apply a variety of movement techniques based in biomechanics to assess the skill level of yoga students and provide appropriate modifications.
- Analyze yoga philosophy, historical roots, current issues and trends in personal and professional yoga practice.
- Develop strategies for yoga instruction grounded in established theories, philosophies and guidelines.
- Implement strategies for yoga instruction grounded in established theories, philosophies and guidelines.
- Apply evaluative feedback to refine teaching approaches and style.

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
