SCC Program Description
Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is home to Arizona's longest-running interior design program, and we are very proud to be celebrating our 45th year of excellence in design education.
We are located in the heart of Scottsdale’s interior design communities, which include Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Airpark, Scottsdale Design Center, and the Scottsdale Design District. We enjoy collaborative working relationships with interior design studios, showrooms,
manufacturing companies, and distributors, many of which employ our students as interns and junior designers.
Our Interior Design program is a comprehensive and rigorous two-year program culminating in an AAS Degree in Interior Design. Our program focuses on residential design, emphasizing design fundamentals, design technology, and real-world design experiences for our students. Many of our graduates are award-winning designers with their own firms, hiring our industry-ready graduates of tomorrow.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
The Interior Design program at Scottsdale Community College has one of the largest and most active Student Chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) in the United States. Our ASID chapter continues to win regional and national awards.
The Interior Design program prides itself on offering students real-world project experience through classroom learning, community outreach, and philanthropic efforts. Each semester, students can work directly with clients in a professional environment. Some of our community partners include the Area Agency on Aging, The Dream Center, Chrysalis, and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). Community projects provide our students with opportunities to broaden their understanding of the world they live in while also allowing them a place to practice their classroom skills.
We also provide opportunities for our students to apply their unique skills through interdisciplinary projects, working collaboratively with students from other programs and departments throughout the college. Recently, collaborative projects have included working with the Culinary Arts, Film, and Theatre departments.
Students enrolled in the program may also participate in formal, supervised internship opportunities. We assist with internship placements in design studios, showrooms, and manufacturing companies based on individual interests and career goals.
Our students are strongly encouraged to participate in the myriad of experiential learning opportunities made available to them. By becoming active participants in their education, students not only thrive in their academic pursuits but also in their professional endeavors.
