Scottsdale Community College is launching many new programs and initiatives starting with the Fall 2020 Semester.
Guided Pathways for Success
Part of a major transformation initiative happening across all 10 colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District, Guided Pathways for Success provides specific academic roadmaps for each program so that students have a clearer understanding of what courses they need to take and when to ensure on-time graduation. All degree and certificate programs fall under nine Fields of Interest (FOIs) that represent various academic and occupational areas of focus. Each FOI offers dedicated support services such as advising, counseling, library support and research, tutoring, faculty support and much more. Every FOI holds at least one event each semester to engage with students on a variety of development and career topics. Discover the FOIs and their programs here.
25 Programs Now 100% Online
Higher education students want greater flexibility in the delivery of their academic programs, and SCC is responding to this demand by making 25 existing programs available through 100% online courses. These programs have received accreditation and provide a full range of options for students’ educational requirements: in person, hybrid and online. View the list of available programs here. SCC has been delivering online courses for years, providing learners with robust instruction across a wide variety of classes and programs, and we will continue in our commitment to do so.
8-Week Semester Program
To provide greater flexibility to students, SCC is launching its first 8-week semester program, the Associate of Business Degree (ABUS). Numerous research studies have shown positive benefits in persistence for students taking 8-week semester courses versus the traditional 16 weeks. SCC plans to offer additional 8-week semester programs launching with the Fall 2021 semester. Learn about the ABUS program here.
Zero Textbook Cost Degrees
Textbook and course materials fees are contributing to the rising cost of higher education. To address this challenge, SCC has launched the A to Z Affordable to Zero Textbook Cost Degrees program, where students can now pursue an entire degree program that offers no cost or low cost (less than $40) textbooks throughout all courses within the program. The first two programs available are Sociology and Dance. In addition, many courses across the College already offer no or low cost textbooks. Read more about the A to Z program here.
New Workforce Development Programs
SCC’s administration and faculty routinely meet with leaders in local business, the city, SRPMIC and the greater community on opportunities for workforce training and skills development, especially in underserved occupations. Starting in the Fall 2020 semester, SCC will offer two new programs addressing compelling workforce needs in Scottsdale and across the Valley: Enrolled Agent and Risk Management & Insurance Studies. Learn more about these new programs here.
Summer and Fall Semester enrollment at Scottsdale Community College is now open. Anyone interested in taking a class or pursuing one of SCC’s 100+ degree and certificate programs should phone (480) 423-6700 or visit the Getting Started page.
