Do you have a way with numbers or enjoy solving problems? Have you ever wondered what the terms “financial services” or “financial securities” mean, and how these might relate to a possible career?
Financial services include a variety of businesses that provide management of money from traditional banks or credit unions to insurance, wealth management, stock brokerage, or investment companies, etc. The Valley of the Sun has become a regional hub for financial services with the presence of large companies such as Charles Schwab, Wells Fargo, Merrill Edge, Nationwide, Vanguard, etc.
In September 2020, Scottsdale Community College (SCC) will begin offering the SIE® (Securities Industry Essentials®) exam prep course, part of a 4-credit program that can be completed in as little as six weeks. The course helps prepare students to take the FINRA SIE Exam, a valuable, nationally recognized verification of a student’s knowledge of fundamental concepts of the securities industry. Students will learn an overview of investments and be required to take and pass the FINRA SIE Exam, which is needed for entry-level positions in the securities industry. Students are required to take and pass the SIE Exam (the cost of the exam is covered by SCC for Fall semester students).
Earning potential increases exponentially with the successful completion of each industry credential, but it all begins with the passing of the SIE exam.
According to Burning Glass International, financial services is expected to grow 22% in the next 10 years with average entry-level salaries of $34,000 in Arizona. There were almost 2,300 positions available and posted in the state between 2019-2020! Roles range from relationship specialist, financial services professional, account representative (non-IT), personal banker, sales agent, and more. And despite the influence of the current pandemic, the industry plans to continue growing in the region.
