AIP Open house

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is proud to announce the upcoming American Indian Program (AIP) Open House, a special event designed to showcase the comprehensive support systems available to American Indian students. The Open House will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Indigenous Cultural Center (ICC 221/222) on the SCC campus. This event is free and open to all current and prospective students interested in learning more about the vibrant community and resources available to American Indian students.

SCC is located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) and the traditional lands of the Onk Akimel O’odham (Pima) and the Xalychidom Piipaash (Maricopa) people. The College holds the honor of being the only non-tribal two-year public higher education institution in the nation whose campus is located on tribal lands. In the spirit of that partnership, SCC offers AIP scholarships for eligible American Indian students and tuition waivers for enrolled SRPMIC members.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet and connect with dedicated SCC staff, learn about the many campus support services available, and gain insight into the extensive social support networks and partnerships. The Open House will highlight the collective efforts of educators and community resources to support American Indian students, ensuring they have access to the tools and opportunities needed for success in higher education.

During the event, visitors can gain an overview of the American Indian Program and other SCC offerings and explore various aspects of student support, including academic advisement, career services, and university transfer information. Additionally, the Open House will feature insights into early college programs, tutoring center resources, student leadership opportunities, and internship and scholarship information. Representatives from urban community resources such as Native Health and the Phoenix Indian Center will also be present to promote the various health, wellness, and social support services available in the greater metropolitan area.

“The AIP Open House is an excellent opportunity for current and prospective students to learn about the wealth of resources available to them,” said Belinda Gutierrez, AIP interim Program Manager at SCC. “We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where American Indian students can thrive academically, socially, and culturally.”

All attendees are encouraged to explore the SCC campus and discover the many ways the American Indian Program can enhance their educational experience. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions about enrollment, academic programs, and community partnerships that benefit American Indian students.
