The more deeply technology permeates every aspect of modern life; the more opportunities arise for those who can help others navigate the complex and rapidly changing tech landscape. Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is ready to help accelerate students into careers in tech support through the newly announced IT Helpdesk Level 1 Microcredential Pathway.

The IT Helpdesk Microcredential will prepare students with the skills they need to succeed in assisting individuals and organizations to solve their inevitable tech challenges. These positions require a unique blend of soft interpersonal skills and hard technical skills. Top candidates will be as comfortable disassembling and replacing a hard drive as they are working with a client to resolve an issue. Friendly, adaptable, and tech-savvy individuals will thrive in this industry. Positions are available in nearly every sector and serve as an accessible entry point to a lifelong career in technology, offering a wealth of opportunities for growth and advancement.

The micro-credential pathway is comprehensive, covering four pillars that will give students a solid foundation for success: Operating System Support, Computer Building and Repair, Oral Communication, and Helpdesk Customer Service. Completing this micro-certification demonstrates that a student has proficiency in the five principles a service professional uses to deliver great IT customer service: Problem-solving skills (which require an appropriate level of technical aptitude), empathy, compassion, listening, and respect. Additionally, they have the skills, tools, and strategies necessary for becoming a computer helpdesk or end-user support professional.

Throughout the course, students will earn badges signifying their competency in the four pillars of the micro-credential pathway. They will learn everything from the intricacies of troubleshooting hardware and software across various devices, testing and implementing cybersecurity measures, to properly de-escalating conflicts with demanding customers. By the end of the one-to-two semester program (length depends upon course availability), students will be demonstrably prepared for a career in IT and will be ready to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam. This widely accepted industry standard certification, issued by the IT association CompTIA, is often used to start a career in IT, further enhancing the students' career prospects.
