Scottsdale Community College’s School of Film+Theatre (SSFT) is thrilled to announce its recognition by MovieMaker as one of the "30 Best Film Schools in the U.S. and Canada" for 2024. MovieMaker is a magazine based in Hollywood focused on the art and craft of movies and cinematic TV. This accolade highlights SSFT's growing reputation as the premier film school in the Southwest, known for its exceptional hands-on education, industry partnerships, and unmatched affordability.
"We are incredibly honored to be included in MovieMaker's prestigious list," says Dr. Eric Leshinskie, President of Scottsdale Community College. "We work tirelessly to ensure that our curriculum prepares students to meet the needs of employers, and this national recognition demonstrates how SCC excels in that regard.”
Bill True, Head of Dramatic Writing at SSFT, shares, "Our approach to cinematic education focuses on immersing students in practical filmmaking from the start. This national recognition underscores the dedication of our faculty and staff, as well as the hard work of our talented students."
By offering associate degrees in Motion Picture, Television, and New Media Production, along with certificates in editing, film production, and screenwriting, SSFT stands out for its innovative, hands-on curriculum. The School's state-of-the-art facilities include a $2.5 million equipment office featuring industry-standard tools so students can gain experience and excel in real-world productions. This commitment to practical experience allows students to work in key production roles on up to 10 projects before graduation.
The School’s affordability and strong industry connections contribute to an impressive track record, with 85 percent of graduates securing jobs and internships upon graduation. In partnership with the Arizona Film Office’s Film Ready Initiative, SSFT aims to train 2,000 industry-ready production assistants over the next five years, further supporting Arizona’s burgeoning film industry.
