Scottsdale Community College (SCC) proudly announces the grand reopening of Artie’s Fit Market Pantry, now in a newly renovated and relocated space in the Student Center (SC-167). This revitalized market is dedicated to providing essential resources to SCC students, enhancing their well-being, happiness, and academic success.
Originally established in 2019 to address food insecurity among students, Artie’s Fit Market has evolved into a comprehensive support hub, offering not only food but also hygiene products, baby items, and kitchen supplies. The pantry’s mission is to be a reliable resource for students facing food insecurity or simply seeking a quick snack, making it a crucial one-stop shop for basic needs.
In recent years, Artie’s Fit Market has seen a significant increase in student engagement, with more than 275 active members and approximately 80 students served each month as of the summer of 2024. Designed in response to the growing needs of the SCC student community, the newly designed space not only enhances the shopping experience for essential items but also provides employment opportunities for student workers, offering them valuable work experience and a greater sense of campus community. The 2023 Hope Center Survey of Basic Needs found that 41% of SCC students have experienced food insecurity: can’t afford a balanced meal, ran out of food, or can’t eat because there isn’t enough money.
"SCC is committed to fostering a culture of care by supporting student success, particularly for those facing food insecurity or other basic needs," said Dr. Eric Leshinskie, SCC’s President. "Artie’s Fit Market is a testament to that commitment, ensuring our students have access to the resources they need to thrive."
