The experienced instructors in our Recreation Management program will provide you with a foundation in the positive application of play, recreation, and leisure across the human lifespan. Our courses will help you apply for positions in the recreation field with confidence and offer practical experience in the development of communication, group facilitation, management, leadership, and technical skills.

SCC Program Description
The Recreation Management program prepares students for entry-level employment opportunities in several areas, including the following:
- Government entities and programs include the federal government, national parks, military entities, state parks/fairs, fish and game, county and municipal functions, and city parks and recreation programs.
- The commercial/for-profit sector includes amusement parks, sporting stadiums/facilities, resort activities, cruise activities, golf courses and resort management, recreational outfitters, etc.
- Non-profit/volunteerism sectors include YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit management, and summer camps.
- Therapeutic/Adaptive include Special Olympics, hospital positions, equestrian centers, etc.
- Collegiate programs include intramural programs, recreational facilities, sports clubs, and athletics.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
SCC’s Recreation program provides numerous opportunities. For those looking for an outdoor adventure, we offer various one-credit outdoor activity classes: cross-country skiing, rowing, kayaking, white water rafting, rock climbing, backpacking, canyoneering, caving, outdoor survival, outdoor cooking, and cycling. These classes require a basic level of fitness. Additional travel/activity costs range from $35 to $575, depending upon the activity. Each class has a one-time orientation meeting on campus and then the trip. Transportation, some food, and equipment are provided. Anyone from the community can register for our outdoor adventure classes; you do not need to be enrolled in our Recreation Management Program!
