SCC Program Description

Key instruction areas taught in SCC's Yoga Program are principles of the breath, meditation, postural sequencing, observation, verbal and physical adjustments, use of voice, and organization of course curriculum.

The Yoga Instruction program provides students with a foundation in the theory, tradition, and practice of yoga, knowledge of anatomy and physiology applied to yoga instruction, instructional methodology in the art and science of teaching yoga asanas, and practice teaching experience.

Many of our instructors are Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers (CIYTs), making SCC a primary source of Iyengar Yoga classes in the Valley, both for SCC students and members of the community at large. Teachers of Iyengar Yoga earn their certification to teach after several years of study and a rigorous testing process. They are also held to high standards of continuing education. CIYTs are versed in using clear instructions, demonstrations, and simple props to help students of all body types and abilities be successful in yoga practice.
