Program Overview

If you’re considering a career in the performing arts, our program offers two outstanding educational pathways depending on your goals—whether you want to prepare for a career in dance performance, choreography, teaching, or fitness instruction, or whether you're looking to diversify your dance portfolio through technology, kinesiology, performance, and real-world application.

Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.

SCC Program Description

Professional Dance Training and Dance for Fun! SCC Dance is a nationally recognized and award-winning dance program. We provide a safe and encouraging environment and have classes for students of all ages and levels in various dance styles. We train our students using sound kinesiological practices to foster effective and efficient movement. Our faculty are passionate experts in the field and are collectively here to help all our students attain their dancing goals.

We have three degree/certificate options for students wanting to study dance for a future or continuing career in the profession. There are many performance and choreographic opportunities and we bring in 3 or more nationally well-known guest artists per year to teach free master classes and set choreography on our performance classes. You can be you at SCC Dance and will become a part of the Dancing Artichoke family!

The Dance Performance and Technology program is designed for students who plan to enter the field of dance as performers, choreographers, teachers, and multimedia technicians. The program provides classes in dance technique (Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop), performance, and production, as well as training in multimedia production and the application of video and computer technology to dance. Students are offered the opportunity to demonstrate this knowledge by producing a short dance concert focusing on performance, choreography for stage and film, camera techniques, non-linear editing techniques, visual design, lighting design, and original sound design.
