Do you want to help guide today’s youth to becoming tomorrow’s leaders? Does the idea of helping children grow academically and socially appeal to you? If so, consider enrolling in the Education program. Upon completing this program, you can pursue a rewarding career as a teacher’s aide or instructional assistant. With continued education, you can become a secondary school or special education teacher, or teach in non-profit, community, or civic organizations.
This program will prepare you for a career in education with foundational education courses related to philosophies, policies, attitudes, behaviors, and instruction. Our experienced instructors will also help you develop in-depth knowledge in human development, teaching and learning theories, instructional strategies, cultural differences, and inclusive educational practices to individualize instruction for diverse learners. You will receive real-world classroom experiences to connect the theories you learn with hands-on practice. This program will also teach you about the historical and current educational influences at the local, state, federal, and global levels to educate you in professional policies and the political process.

SCC Program Description
Scottsdale Teacher Education Partnership (STEP) Post-Baccalaureate Certification: SCC offers the only 1 year State Board approved post-baccalaureate teacher certification program in the valley at $85.00 per credit hour! Pathways are designed in a hybrid program format that incorporates face-to-face traditional instruction and online learning.
There are two program models available in for candidates to work toward K- 8 certifications. SCC works in collaboration with elementary and middle schools across the valley.
- Traditional Pathway: One-year cohort designed as a field-based preparation program that allows candidates to learn to teach by working side by side with teachers and students in elementary and middle school classrooms.
- Teacher-in-Residence Pathway: This one-year cohort allows candidates to be employed full-time in a classroom while completing the required education courses.

Professional Development and Endorsement Courses
SCC offers courses for classroom teachers working toward a Reading Specialist Endorsement and/or Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement. These endorsement courses are based on current national standards and are accepted by the Arizona Department of Education.
Associate Degree
Education courses are offered for students who plan to enter the teaching profession. These courses are designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year university to complete a Bachelor's degree in education, or wish to work as a paraprofessional in a classroom. An Associate in Arts in Elementary Education Degree is offered to students who want to work as an Elementary teacher (K- 6) Middle School teacher (7-8) or Secondary teacher (9-12).
