As award season buzz fills the air, Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is gearing up for its cinematic adrenaline rush with the return of the Two Hour Film Challenge. This year promises to be another exhilarating race against the clock for novices to seasoned cinephiles alike.
On April 3, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCC, the Two Hour Film Challenge beckons participants from all corners of the nation to embark on a thrilling journey of crafting compelling short films – in just one hundred and twenty minutes from start to finish! This lightning-paced event is a unique opportunity to ignite your creativity and push the boundaries of what's possible in filmmaking.
Teams composed of friends, strangers, and creative enthusiasts will convene at the onset of the challenge to receive their mission: crafting a film from scratch based on a title assigned to them. From there, it's a whirlwind of collaborative effort as participants navigate the creative process, from scriptwriting to filming to editing, all within two hours.
"Every year, the Two Hour Film Challenge showcases the incredible ingenuity and talent within our community," says Danielle Stallings, organizer of the event and a full-time faculty member at SCC's School of Film+Theatre. Deadlines fuel creativity and offer no time to second-guess our creative instincts, resulting in raw and captivating films. I'm eagerly anticipating the unique perspectives that will emerge from this year's challenge."
Audience engagement is a crucial component of the Two Hour Film Challenge experience. Spectators are invited to join the Watch Party starting at 3:30 p.m., where they can witness the creative process unfold in real-time. Following the conclusion of the challenge at 6:00 p.m., viewers will have the opportunity to screen all submissions and cast their votes for the winning team.
The victorious team will be determined based on audience votes.
Whether you're a seasoned filmmaker or a complete novice, SCC's Two Hour Film Challenge offers an electrifying opportunity to witness creativity in action and celebrate the power of storytelling in its purest form.
